All companies regardless of size will be obligated to provide complementary health insurance to employers as of 1 January 2016.
The previous system has contributions whereby 0.75% are paid by employees and 13.10% by employers of the gross salary.  Individuals are then reimbursed by the French health systems 70% of health care costs which comprises of the compulsory portion and then either pay directly or through health insurance the supplementary portion.  There are also small charges for doctor’s visits and laboratory tests.
Under the new plan employers will need to provide the following minimum benefit levels;

  • Minimum coverage including, social security fee, minimum daily hospital fee, dental and optical fees.
  •  Employers must pay at least 50% of the insurance premium cost.
  • Automatic and mandatory enrolment of all employees.
